Skytide padded into camp. He had just gotten done 'training' with Twistpaw. He continued inwards and grabbed a mouse from the Fresh Kill pile. He laid down a short ways away from the pile and took some bites from the mouse. He had doubted himself, wondering if he wasn't the right choice for training Twistpaw. He also wondered if Twistpaw thought of him as a stupid kittypet. As these thoughts zoomed through his head, he slowly ate at the mouse he had taken.

Checkerpelt
Checkerpelt was lying in the sun as Skytide padded back into camp. He looked pretty stressed. The tortoiseshell observed the black tom whom she loved for a few moments. Sighing, the she-cat got up and stretched, also letting out a yawn. She shook her body, long fur twirling around. Her balance gained, she walked over to the fresh-kill pile and snatched up a vole. Slightly smiling, she sat down beside Skytide and took a bite out of the delicious prey. "What's bothering you, Skytide?" Checkerpelt asked him, a worried look on her face.

Skytide sighed. "Im not sure, Checkerpelt. I don't think I was the right choice as a mentor for Twistpaw. I'm trying as hard as I can, but I think he still thinks of me as a kittypet..." he meowed, ears slanting back slightly. He wasn't angry or sad, but instead he was doubtful. Of himself.

Checkerpelt
The tortoiseshell she-cat rested her tail on Skytide's back. "Skytide, I'm sure you're a great mentor. Twistpaw is just reluctant to use your techiniques. And may I mention - plain stubborn. He'll get over it," she said, trying to comfort the tom. Checkerpelt nuzzled his cheek and took another bite out of the delicious vole.

Skytide nodded slightly. "Your right Checkerpelt, but we'll always be kittypets..." he sighed. He felt a pang of regret hit him as he remembered how he lied to Checkerpelt about his blind eye. He had lied and said that he was born with it that way, instead of telling the truth and saying his sister had caused it. If he told her now that he had lied... it would probably end their relationship for good.

Checkerpelt
Checkerpelt's hackles raised. "We are not kittypets! We're clan cats!" she hissed, her tail lashing. Anger flowing through her, she wolfed down the rest of her vole and stalked off back to where she was basking when Skytide arrived. It angered her when people insulted her by calling her a kittypet. And it really upset it when the one she loved said it! She layed down in the sun, trying to relax her bristling fur. Moments later, it settled and her temper went back to normal. Checkerpelt eyed the tom for a quick second and rolled over to her back, letting sun rays soak into her pelt, trying to forget what the black cat had said.

Skytide flinched as Checkerpelt walked away. He felt frustrated, but not with Checkerpelt or Twistpaw. Again, it was hismelf. He grabbed the leftovers of the mouse, got up, spun around, and threw it against the nearest rock angrily. He faced away from where Checkerpelt was and plopped back down. His silver stripe looked usually looked like it was glowing when the sun hit it, but now it was dull and gray-ish. He pinned his ears back angrily. Now would NOT be a good time to tell Checkerpelt he lied to her. He was already too close to ruining what they had, and he didn't even know if they had anything left now...

Checkerpelt
Checkerpelt heard scuffling of feet. She assumed it was Skytide. She flopped back over onto her right side to watch him. He was angry, it seemed to be. She flinched as he flung the mouse against a near-by rock. The tortoiseshell frowned as he spun around, plopping down on the oppisite side that faced Checkerpelt. She felt hurt as a small tear trickled down her beautiful face.

Skytide could sense Checkerpelt's sadness. He wasn't mad at her, he was mad at himself. Why couldn't she just realize that Skytide was trying to make clan life seem better then it was, and maybe even that he had mixed feelings right now!?
