{ T h u n d e r s o n g } Warrior of FrostClan Thundersong led Silentpaw into the forset. Birds... I guess not everyone knows how to hunt them... She trotted into the forest, then stopped, signaling with her tail for Silentpaw to do the same. She leapt into a tree and climbed to a low branch. She sat quietly, watching a dove pecking around the roots. She prepared to leap, crouching. Then, she pounced. The she-cat caught the bird and killed it quickly. "See? That's one way to do it." She buried the dove, then led Silentpaw to a different spot. The warrior did a traditional hunters crouch, stalking a sparrow. She leapt for it, but banked short. The bird flew into the air, shrieking a warning. Thundersong sprung up and grabbed it out of the air. "That's another way, she told her apprentice. "But you could also do it like you hunt a mouse. You have to be quiet and slow with a bird. You pounce only when you are close enough." She carried the sparrow back to where the dove was buried and cover it up, as well. She motioned to a tree with low-laying branches. "Now you try."

{ S i l e n t p a w } Apprentice of FrostClan Silentpaw padded after her mentor through the thick woods that had plently of birds and other delicious prey. She stopped moving when Thundersong singaled to. Now she sat down as the brown she-cat slunk up the tree, not to mention she was camaflauged greatly. Her oceany blue eyes observed what her mentor was doing, carefully so she would not miss anything. Thundersong showed her three ways to. One way was to leap from a tree, the second way was to catch it in mid-air and the last one was basically just like hunting a mouse. Silentpaw decided on the second one. She nodded her head as Thundersong had said "Now you try." She raised her head and drew in the scents around her. She detected a pigeon and ran at it. Of course it flew, but not fast enough. At the same time, she let her powerful haunches spring her into the air and daggered the flying creature down to the ground. She came crashing down on it and bit its neck, making its death quick and painless. Proudly, she looked at her mentor. How was that? she mewed.

{ T h u n d e r s o n g } Warrior of FrostClan Thundersong sat back and watched in pride as her apprentice caught the pigeon. "Wonderful!" she mewed. "Why don't you try some more? You're definately a quick learner. Maybe try the trees this time." Am I a good teacher or is she a good student? the brown she-cat pondered momentarily. She didn't really care, her apprentice had picked it up on the first try and that was all she needed to motivate her. They would do training every day, she decided.

Silentpaw smiled as her mentor praised her. 'Try the trees' is what she heard. She nodded her head and swiftly climbed up a tree. In the air she noticed a raven fluttering in the air. Getting in a leaping position, she waited for it to fly closer, unaware of the ginger-and-white apprentice. When it was close enough, she leapt, claws extended as they pierced the feathery body. They soared through the air for a milli second and once again, was landed back on the ground. She purred for a second and decided to do the third lesson. Quickly, she let her paws scrape dirt over the limp body and suddenly found a bird pecking at the ground. Silentpaw got into the hunters crouch and stealthily stalked forward. Before she could leap, a twig snapped under her from her feet. She was putting too much pressure on her paws. It heard her and flew away, calling an alarm. Silentpaw looked back at the brown cat who was watching and walked back to her, heading hanging down. Her mind was saying You failed. You failed. repeatedly. She said aloud, not really audible, I did not fail!

Thundersong watched in silence as Silentpaw climbed the tree. The ginger-and-white apprentice waited, then leapt. The brown she-cat's mouth fell open. "Y-you," she began, but stopped as Silentpaw started stalking a blackbird. She's moving too quickly, thought Thundersong, getting the hang of being a mentor. Sure enough, the black bird escaped. The brown she-cat could see that Silentpaw was disappointed and embarassed. "Y-you caught a raven," began Thundersong again, her eyes wide. "In mid-flight. I've never been able to do that before. I've tried, believe me. You're an amazing bird hunter." She looked at her apprentice admiringly. She grabbed her two catches, leaving the huge raven for the ginger-and-white she-cat to carry. Ravens sometimes killed cats, and Silentpaw had killed a raven! She couldn't believe it. "Let's bring this prey back to camp," she said, through a mouthful, not masking her pride. "That raven will feed several cats!" She waited for Silentpaw to pick up her prize.

Silentpaw lifted her head when her mentor started speaking. You could see the amazement glittering in Thundersong's eyes. 'You caught a raven. I've never been able to do that!' is what the ginger-and-white apprentice heard. Along with the compliment of her being a skilled bird hunter. She smiled. 'Time to get going.' The brown cat had said, through two pieces of fresh-kill, leaving the raven for Silentpaw to carry. She picked it up and followed Thundersong, proud as ever.
