A grey shape slipped out of the rock that marked the entrance to the medicine cat den, blinking in the morning sun. Her blue eyes narrowed to slits before she shut her eyes and lstretched legs letting her paws fan out in front of her, curling her long and fluffy tail over her head. Letting out a yawn she padded over to her apprentice; 'You up for some learning today?' she purred, and flicked her tail towards the den, she was glad she had someone to pass on her knowlege to.

"Yeah!" replied Mysticpaw, turning to her mentor. She stood up happily, and yet proudly. She was happy she had somebody who actually taught her something, and she was proud that today she was getting ready to get taught her first lesson. "What we learning about today?" she asked, curious.

The medicine cat smiled, 'If you have anything you desperately want to learn about, I'll teach you that, but, if you're like how i was, you'd be dieing to learn Everything.' With a purr of amusement she walked through the crack in the rock and walked a small distance to where she set her herbs. There were many, many herbs, all in neat little piles, the more important at the bottom on the floor, and the rarely used or dangerous, on a small ledge, made up of a small rock that jutted out of the cave wall.

Mystickit ran into the den behind her mentor, eaager to learn about the herbs and other medicine. "Wow... I think I notice some of these from in the forest!" Mystickit said. She wandered over towards the Merigold, and then she went over and sniffed the Lavender. She went back towards her mentor. "I notice those two. I've seen them in the forest. One of them is Merigold, and the other one is Lavender I think..." Mystickit said, and she swished her tail back and forth happily.

Cinnamonpelt purred. 'Yes, that's right. You may remember them from a kit, do you know what they do?' She wasn't expeccting her apprentice to know what they were, but she might know, lavender especially.

Mysticpaw twitched her ear. She knew what they were for, she just had to think. "I think Merigold is for chills and infection, and Lavender is for head and throat pain. Isnt the scent of the flower for calming the nerves also?" said Mysticpaw, sure of her answer.

The small cat nodded. 'Now, when do you think we would use lavender?' Her apprentice seemed to be eager to learn, and picked things up quickly. She was somewhat proud of the little cat already, she was a good learner, even though she hadn't needed to tell her what was what to get those answers.

"Maybe when a cat has bad head and neck pain or when a cat is tensed because of a wound?" Mysticpaw guessed. She wasnt completely sure of when to use Lavender, she just knew what it was and what it did.

'Yes you could use it for that. But most kits find the scent comforting to them because it's there when they're born. You see, some queens may fall into panic on thier fist litter. Lavender is great just to place besides them. It's scent will soothe them, hence why most kits enjoy it.' She remembered the last litter of kits, not that long ago. The queen had been so grateful to her for the lavender. 'Not every cat knows this trick, so it's a good one to know.'

Mysticpaw nodded. She was happy she had such a knowledgable mentor. She purred, impressed. "I never thought of it that way. I have always wondered why i was drawn to the scent of Lavender..." Mysticpaw said.

Cinnamonpelt's eyes glittered, 'Hmm, a little off the subject of kits and such, I need to show you the basics.' The cat looked down at her apprentice and looked thoughtful for a moment. 'Hmm... The thing warriors complain most about are thorns- Thorns in their pads. They're so clumsy.' The cat ended her sentence in laughter, those noble warriors were real soft when it came to their paws.

Mysticpaw nodded. When she was a kit she had seen Warriors coming back from patrols with thorns in theyre paws. She giggled silently and looked at her mentor. She was so concentrated. I wonder how she stays so concentrated on one thing... Of course she is, though, what was I expecting? She IS Medicine Cat... I cant wait until tonight though. I want to learn, but im going to study the scents of some herbs in the forest! Mysticpaw thought. She wasnt even concentrated anymore. She caught herself and turned her attention back on Cinnamonpelt.

Cinnamonpelt chuckled to herself as she noticed the young apprentice drift into a world of her own. She waited for her apprentice to look focused again before she continued. 'It's pretty simple really. One of the quickest and simplest.' She lifted her forleg so that she could present her paw to the apprentice. 'As you may have expierienced, the pad is the softest part of the body, and the most easily damaged, like the eyes. Warriors may come in here wailing about a small scrape on the pad, but go hunting whilst their bone is haning out.' She laughed a little at the end of her ecentence. 'If the thorn or pine needle is sticking out, simply pull it out with your teeth, and dispose of it safely, like putting it aside to bury later.' She paused a bit to let her apprentice catch up. 'If there is bleeding, what do we use to cover it up with?'

The medicine cat nodded 'Yes, thats right, warriors might limp a little, but it will stop any blood loss.' She noticed mystic paw's tone, 'That enough for today eh? Do you want to do some scent recognition tomorrow?'
