Dragonstar sighed. Tonight, of all nights, she would have to announce a new deputy. None of her cats had been able to go to the gathering, as they had been at the vigil for Rockleafe. And now, it was getting close to what she perceived to be moonhigh, if there was a moon. It was still, and not a sound could be heard in the camp. The only light was the stars, and that was not much at all for even the cats. She got up from where she had been sitting vigil at Rockleaf's body, and headed for the HighLedge, her tail almost dragging in the dirt, her head bowed. Leaping up to her usual spot, she called in a clear, loud voice, a little raspy but otherwise clear, "All cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the High Ledge for a Clan meeting." Oh, well, she might as well address Rockleafe's former apprentice, too. She, after all, needed a mentor as well. The warrior the ginger leader had decided on was capable, and she was content with her choice.

~Darkpaw looked up at the great leader of Earthclan. Why had Dragonstar called a meeting? It didn't really matter. A meeting was a meeting, and she had to attend because her leader had called it. She stared up at her leader, standing upon the high Ledge. Would she someday be as important as Dragonstar? She hoped so. Her mentor was so powerful! She could only hope to be like her one day...~

It has been a few days after Dawncloud has giving birth, so she is still in the nursary. She wanted to go and see who the special cat is, who is going to be help led Earthclan. She manage to slid her four little kits under some warm moss, and she walked slowly to the enterance of the nursary. She could see were all the cats were grouping for the announcement. She could still she her kits sleeping in one corrner of her eye and the announcement with the other eye.

Firepaw
The dark ginger apprentice padded slowly into the camp. He must be announcing Rockleaf's death, and who the new deputy is, he mused. He had witnessed the death himself. He couldn't forget the image of the brown she-cats limp, broken body on the ground. Remember, this is probably worse for Brackenclaw than it is for me. Firepaw curled up near the back of the gathering crowd, his purple eyes lacking their usual mischievous glint. The only cats who already knew were no where to be seen yet. Just then, he realized that Rockleaf's body wasn't there. Has it already been buried? Firepaw wondered, puzzled. He looked around the camp, but couldn't spot her.

Darkpaw ~Darkpaw moved to sit beside Firepaw. Unlike the rest of the clan, Darkpaw had not witnessed Rockleafe's death. In that respect she was lucky. It must have been gruesome. She didn't want to imagine anything so horrid. Darkpaw looked at Firepaw out of the corner of her eyes. His enchanting purple eyes had lost their sparkle, she noticed. Her face fell as she realized what this meeting had been called for. The naming of a new deputy.~ |

Brackenclaw padded out of the Nursery. He was just peeping in on his kits and Dawncloud.There were very beaustiful kits. He loved them dearly.Dawncloud, his mate, he loved dearly too. He had no idea what he would do if she or the kits weren't here. He was also glad for Rockleafe.She was a beautiful cat. She had shown him, along with StarClan, that his destiny was with Dawncloud. He thanks her for that and will miss her much. However he has Dawncloud, his kits, Firepaw, and all to worry about.
He continued walking over to join Dawn cloud and Firepaw.
"I hope she announcing your warriorship Firepaw." he murmured to the ginger tom apprentice."It's about time." |

~Darkpaw listened carefully to her mentor, speaking to the clan. She heard Brackenclaw tell Firepaw that it was about time that he became a warrior. They hadn't been apprentices all that long, and it was time for them to be warriors?! Darkpaw had dreamed of being a warrior, ever since she could remember being able to think. She wondered if her dream would come true!~

The ginger tom's purple eyes widened in surprise. "B-But, shouldn't we learn a bit more before we become warriors?" True, he wanted more than anything to become a warrior as soon as possible. But I want to be the best warrior ever--I'll need to know everything I can know!. Firepaw watched as Brackenclaw padded forward to sit down, wondering what had made his mentor say it. It was wayyyy to early to become a warrior already. How long have I been an apprentice? 2 moons? To Darkpaw, Firepaw whispered, "Isn't it too early?"

She doubted that she would ever be one of the best, but she doubted that she would ever be THE BEST. She would like to be one of the best, but more than anything, she wanted her warrior name. What would it be? She trembled as she looked up. Would this be the announcing of a new deputy, as well as a warrior naming ceremony?~ |

(uh... I just made them apprentices a while ago!)
"Tonight, I have the umpleasant task of naming a new deputy. Rockleafe was an amazing cat, and one of the best friends I ever had. It was a pain to lose her, personally, but the Clan also took a mighty blow to this..." she trailed off, but regained her voice soon after, and continued, "I say these words before the body of Rockleafe and before StarClan, so they may approve of my choice. Brackenclaw, you are the next deputy of EarthClan. Bear this name well, and may you never forget that you now represent not only your Clan when you speak, but also my wisdom." She flicked her tail, and waited for the yowls to die down so she could make a further announcement.
(hey, was it bracken that wanted Angelpaw? You know, Rockleafe's former apprentice.)

Dawncloud went to Brackenclaw to congradulat him. "Congradulations" She purred as she walked up to Brackenclaw. She had only a few seconds to talk she could not stay so far way from her kits.
